Historic neighborhoods on the lagoon
West Palm Beach has an unusual number of historic districts, including El Cid, Flamingo Park, Grandview Heights and Northwood, many with 1920s homes built during the Florida land boom. Those homes have plaster, wood floors, older roofs and plumbing that has been repaired many times. They're worth restoring carefully, and historic review may apply to exterior work. Frances, Jeanne and Wilma
In 2004, Frances and Jeanne came ashore just north of Palm Beach County within three weeks of each other, and Wilma crossed the region in 2005. Roofs across West Palm Beach were damaged in all three, and many homes took water through openings before they could be tarped.
