Insurance Claims Assistance for Water Damage

We work directly with your insurer by sending them the documentation they need, in the format adjusters work from. You stay in charge of your claim. Here's what that means in practice and how Florida's recent insurance changes affect you.

What we do for your claim

  • Photo and video documentation of the damage before, during and after mitigation.
  • Moisture maps and readings that show how far water spread, including inside walls and under floors.
  • Daily drying logs that record equipment, readings and progress.
  • Line-item estimates in the format insurance adjusters commonly use.
  • Meeting your adjuster on site, at your request, to walk through the damage and our documentation.
  • Sending documentation to your adjuster directly, with your permission, so nothing gets lost between inboxes.

What we don't do, and why

SwiftFlow is not a public adjuster. Under Florida law, only you, a licensed public adjuster or an attorney can negotiate your claim with the insurance company. We provide facts and documentation; we don't argue coverage.

We also don't ask you to sign over your insurance benefits. Florida eliminated assignment of benefits (AOB) agreements for property insurance policies issued on or after January 1, 2023, and you keep full control of your claim and your payments. And we don't offer to waive or cover deductibles. In Florida, that offer is a red flag.

How a water damage claim usually moves

  1. Stop the damage and document it. Call us, photograph everything, and start mitigation. Your policy expects you to prevent further damage.
  2. Report the claim promptly. Recent Florida reforms shortened how long you have to report a property claim, so report as soon as possible and check your policy's notice requirements.
  3. Adjuster inspection. The insurer's adjuster reviews the damage, often alongside our documentation.
  4. Estimate and scope agreement. The adjuster's estimate is compared with the documented damage. If something was missed, a supplement with supporting evidence can be submitted.
  5. Payment. Insurers typically pay the policyholder, sometimes jointly with a mortgage company. We explain exactly how billing works on your job before we start.

Florida coverage questions we hear most

  • Flood vs. water damage: homeowners policies usually exclude rising water; flood is covered by a separate NFIP or private flood policy. See flood cleanup.
  • Slow leaks: many policies exclude damage from leaks that continued over a long period. Our moisture readings help show timing.
  • Mold: many Florida policies cap mold coverage at a set dollar amount. See mold remediation.
  • Sewer backup: often needs a separate endorsement. See sewage cleanup.
  • Citizens policyholders: Citizens Property Insurance follows the same basic steps. Report through Citizens' claims line and keep your claim number handy.

Insurance Claims Assistance: common questions

Can you negotiate my claim for me?

No. In Florida, only you, a licensed public adjuster or an attorney can negotiate a claim. We supply documentation, meet the adjuster when you ask, and answer technical questions about the damage.

Do I need a public adjuster?

That's your decision. Many water claims are settled directly with the insurer. For larger or disputed losses, some homeowners hire a licensed public adjuster. Their fees are regulated in Florida, so ask how they're paid.

What if my claim is denied?

Ask the insurer for the denial reason in writing and review your policy language. Our documentation can support a reconsideration. For a formal dispute, talk to a licensed public adjuster or a Florida attorney.
