The name is literal. Betton Hills has real slopes, and in a heavy thunderstorm, runoff from uphill yards and streets finds the lowest path it can, sometimes straight toward a foundation, a basement-style lower level or a garage door. Split-level and lower-level rooms dug into the hillside are more common here than in most of Florida, and they are the first spaces to take on water. We see wet carpet along the uphill wall, damp drywall at the base of lower-level rooms, and water entering where a driveway slopes toward the house.
